Amcor MD250 Mini Dehumidifier

This small model seems to be touch-and-go for many customers. The small size and inexpensive purchase price of the Amcor MD250 Mini Dehumidifier, which tends to retail for around $40, make it an economic option for laundry rooms, bathrooms, and other small spaces; however, a variety of unfortunate performance issues have been reported.

Appearance and Design

An attractive, sleek silver plastic exterior makes the Amcor MD250 Mini Dehumidifier an unobtrusive addition to most rooms, even when counter space is cramped or nonexistent. The MD250 runs on Peltier technology, which utilizes a heat pump to cool a surface within the dehumidifier and create condensation that is then collected in a bucket or similar container. This technology is completely silent and requires no moving parts, but tends to be less effective than other methods. The MD250 can only remove about 250 ml of water from the air in a 24-hour period.

Functionality and Use

Because of its small size and limited dehumidification abilities, the Amcor MD250 Mini Dehumidifier is best used in small, poorly ventilated spaces. It can, for example, work quite effectively beneath a kitchen sink, or in a windowless bathroom, and will reduce the possibility of mold problems developing in such areas. However, this model tends to break down after a relatively short period of use, and very few customers were able to use it for longer than six months before they were forced to buy a new one.

Model Limitations

In addition to a short performance lifespan, the Amcor MD250 simply isn’t equipped to serve any space larger than a small bathroom. It has a water collection pan which is difficult to remove, and may be defective; several customers reported that they had to replace the tray two or three times before finally receiving one that worked properly. When purchasing this model, keep in mind that the low price is reflective of inconsistent quality.

Customer Service and Warranty

Although the Amcor MD250 Mini Dehumidifier comes with a 1-year manufacturer warranty, customers reported significant frustration with the company when dealing with customer service representatives. The model almost never lasted longer than six months, yet the cost of return shipping to the manufacturer made the warranty almost useless in terms of replacement. For this reason, buyers should be aware that the warranty will provide little benefit should the machine malfunction.

What Do Owners Say?

In general, customers were pleased with the performance of the Amcor until it broke down. Unfortunately, this period of proper function ranged from a paltry two weeks to a still somewhat disappointing six months, less than half of what the warranty implies the product’s lifespan to be. Based on dissatisfaction with the company’s customer service and the inconsistency of the product, most customers said that they would not purchase the Amcor MD250 Mini Dehumidifier again, and would opt for a more reliable model.

If noise, size, and price are your main concerns, the Amcor MD250 may be a good choice for your dehumidification needs. However, it is unlikely to provide a reliable long-term solution in most situations.
