Danby Dehumidifiers
Danby dehumidifiers are the ideal choice when looking for a good balance between price and quality. Danby dehumidifiers are generally known for their average quality dehumidifier in which you may get 5 years out of, but you are most likely not going to be getting 10 years out of it. There are some high performance and quality brands out there that do make dehumidifiers that you very well may get 10 years out of, but you are going to pay a lot more than you would for a Danby dehumidifier.
For those who have never needed to buy a dehumidifier before, a decent dehumidifier for home use in an area such as a basement is generally going to cost between $200-$300. The higher quality dehumidifiers are generally from $300 and up. However, Danby dehumidifiers sell for as little as $150 making them truly a bargain brand compared to the competition. But with a low price there are some trade-offs.
Unless Danby has updated their dehumidifier models since 2009, not all models come with a pure digital display and the quieter settings. One of the notoriously complained about features of dehumidifiers is the noise level and unfortunately Danby's current models are no exception. So this is just fine if you are looking for basement use, but probably not the best if you are looking to put it in a child's bedroom. That being said, for the price you are going to save, Danby dehumidifiers may be a good choice for basement use. Some of the higher quality brands like Frigidaire or Soleus may be a better choice for the upstairs areas where you have to listen to the sound of a fan while it runs.
Danby still makes quite a few other products so their warranties aren't too bad. They've been around for a while so it's probably not going to be a company that just randomly goes out of business (although in this economy, it's hard to tell anymore). Generally, Danby is going to be just fine of a brand for the average dehumidifier user and can be commonly found at stores like Home Depot and Sears.
Overall, Danby is a decent brand if you are looking for price over performance. They might be a little louder, a little less quality, but they also come with a littler price tag. So take your pick: if you like to save less in exchange for a bit of quality then choose Danby; if you like to choose quality in exchange for a bit higher price then choose Frigidaire.
