Dehumidifier Accessories

Did you just buy a dehumidifier or do you plan on buying a dehumidifier? You will quickly find out that many dehumidifiers do not come with the additional accessories required to combat a serious moisture problem. Although a typical dehumidifier is enough for residential, short term basement use, this is not always the humidity problem that people run into. Unfortunately, it can be much more severe than just an 80% humidity level during the summer. If you are looking to run the dehumidifier year round or if you have ever had a moisture problem in your house then picking up the necessary dehumidifier accessories is a must.

Dehumidifier pumps are essential for areas that are incredibly humid so that you are not constantly emptying the bucket every few hours. There are some dehumidifiers that come with a dehumidifier pump, but in general you are going to be on your own if you have to pump the water for long distances. This is especially useful if you are planning on routing the water to a drain or outside of the house or building. Although the dehumidifier may have a spout where the water comes out, you need to remember that this is only going to work if you are running the hose along the ground. If you plan on routing that water anywhere other than flat against the ground, gravity is going to take over and the water will just sit in the hose. So it's important to get a pump if you are going to want the water to go anywhere else other than into a drain on the floor.

Another dehumidifier accessory that people often forget about is the dehumidifier drainage hose. This is another item that is essential for making your life easier when it comes to handling your dehumidifier. No one likes emptying the dehumidifier bucket especially when it is the large sizes like 70 pints. A 70 pint bucket weighs quite a bit more than you would expect. In addition, emptying a bucket usually causes water to spill so a drainage hose will help keep your floor dry. Rather than taking the water out of the air and spilling it somewhere else that you do not want it, you can buy a long dehumidifier hose and it can route the water that just came from inside your room outside where it belongs. Although a garden hose will do the trick, a bright green hose running in your house is just something that most people do not want to look at every day. Buying a hose that specifically blends with your carpet or walls is ideal in these situations.

People often forget about a drip pan as well. There are some dehumidifier models that drip just a little bit to the point where it will get in your carpet if you do not have a drip pan underneath. Unfortunately this is a fairly common problem with certain brands of dehumidifiers. Again, that is why it is absolutely essential to do your homework before you buy a dehumidifier so that you do not get one of these suspect brands. However, if you do get stuck with a lemon, a drip pan is much less expensive than buying a new dehumidifier.

To make your dehumidifier purchase really be worth the money, it is highly advised that you use the pump and the hose. If you are considering buying a dehumidifier, then you really should look for these built in. However, they hose may not be long enough if you just take what the company gives you. And the pump may not be powerful enough to route the water where you need it to go especially when it comes to basements. So make sure you pick up the extra dehumidifier accessories that you need if you find yourself in one of these scenarios.
