The MobilComfort KY-80 Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier is a reliable, well-designed unit from the same manufacturers as the Soleus brand. Aside from a few minor noise production issues, it appears to provide efficient cooling at a very reasonable price.

Appearance and Design

The tall, tower-like appearance of the MobilComfort KY-80 Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier is a bit unusual when compared to other, similar models, but it gets the job done. A small square grate near the top of the unit blows out quantities of cool air, while rolling caster wheels make the KY-80 easy to move from room to room. Outputting 8000 BTUs, this portable air conditioner is only suitable for small rooms of less than 250 square feet, and should not be purchased by those looking to cool a larger area – unless you intend to buy more than one!

Functionality and Use

Unlike the vast majority of portable air conditioning units, the MobilComfort KY-80 Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier seems to perform quite well on all major points. The unit is capable of removing approximately 29 pints of water a day in its capacity as a dehumidifier, and features eco-friendly R-410A refrigerant, which reduces the risk of damage to the ozone layer. While not Energy Star certified, this small model is unlikely to be the worst criminal when it comes to energy usage and costs.

Model Limitations

Only one problem has been commonly reported regarding the MobilComfort KY-80 Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier, and that issue is noise. Buyers found that they could not sleep while the machine was running in the bedroom, that the fan ran continuously in AC mode, and that the parts tended to rattle and vibrate as though they were slightly off-balance.
